0rphan Drift and Art Technologies: A Cephalopod ↔ Machine Encounter
Join via Twitch: @serpentineuk
Monday 11 October 2021
6 - 7pm BST
Join Serpentine Arts Technologies live via Serpentine’s Twtich in conversation with Maggie Roberts of 0rphan Drift (0D). As she guides us through a meditative exercise, we will experience the ocean floor as an octopus would.
The live event will continue with an in-conversation between Roberts, Alasdair Milne (Creative AI Lab researcher) and Eva Jäger (Associate Curator of Arts Technologies at Serpentine) as they discuss Maggie’s latest project, ISCRI, a collaborative research initiative between 0rphan Drift and research/design consultancy Etic Lab which has undertaken the question: How can an octopus, in an encounter with artificial intelligence, transform our understanding of technological development?
Polarised Light Vision. The Becoming Octopus Meditations and ISCRI animation stills, 0rphan Drift 2020-2021. Maggie Roberts, artist. Megan Bagshaw, VFX supervision. Thanks to Etic Lab for Cephalopod behaviour research and Anna Breytenbach for Interspecies communication.
